How is it already September?! This year is flying by, and I'm starting to realize just how true the saying is: "The days are long, but the years are short." As the year winds down, my mind races with all the things I haven’t yet finished.
When 2024 began, I knew I would be launching Schweet Living, but I had no idea what that would actually look like. While I’m proud of how far I’ve come, I’m also frustrated by how slowly my business has grown compared to my expectations. I’m a high-functioning, highly productive person, and I’m used to hitting my goals quickly. But building this business while balancing my full time career, being a stay-at-home mom, supporting my husband’s business, and managing my own health and home has taught me the importance of the mental pivot.
I’ve learned that I can no longer sit down for hours at a time to complete a task. Instead, I’m constantly pulled in different directions, tackling things in 15-minute bursts or even just a few seconds at a time. This mental pivot—what my husband calls “having your head on a swivel”—can make it feel like I’m not making progress, but I’m learning to embrace this new pace of life.
I joke with my husband that you can tell how my day has gone based on how many half drank water glasses exist in the house. On a stressful day, I usually have up to 5 or 6 a day! That can be a half full LaCroix can, a 1/3 drank fizz stick, 1/2 ice water glass, etc. It just shows how I can pulled and don't return to what I was doing at that moment.
Instead of fighting the feeling of falling behind, I've trained myself to take a breath, pray, and surrender those feelings. I’m no longer the single person who could dictate how to spend my time and energy. Now, I have to find how each priority fits like a puzzle piece into my day. My new goal is to celebrate each small victory—like writing this newsletter while my son naps in a carrier on my chest, rather than dedicating hours at a time like I used too.
Just a side note - this concept of time blocking will come back in a few weeks as that is our 2nd episode of our upcoming podcast, "Get Your Schweet Together!"
Speaking of the podcast, I was so excited to announce it in our first newsletter, but I was overly optimistic about the launch timeline. I want to release something of quality, not just rush to meet a deadline. So, while I’m fighting the “you’re going too slow” mindset, I’m focusing on doing things right.
What I am trying to say is, if you’re feeling behind or slow in your current season, don’t fight it. Each phase of life comes with a new pace, and you’ll find your rhythm.
What are some ways you struggle handling the mental pivot?
What are some ways you could give yourself grace in this season?
I'd love to hear them. In the meantime, thanks for sticking with me, and I can’t wait to reveal more of what I’ve been working on as the year progresses. We’ll be building momentum soon, and until then, I hope you have a wonderful week.
